I Really Like You But…

Ladies, have you ever had a guy who was really into you; I mean head-over-heels into you but you didn’t feel the same way?

Maybe he did really nice things for you like bringing you flowers; maybe he always asked how you’re day was and comforted you when you were down. Maybe you ran to him or called him when you had a bad day but avoided him when things were good.

But then, there always comes that point when you know he has stronger feelings for you then you have for him and if you don’t say something now, he’s going to get the wrong idea.

So you have the talk… “I really like you but, only as a FRIEND.

Every man hates that dreaded line; they know it’s coming even before you say the words – like a knife to the heart.

What if, he didn’t accept this response and instead kept pursuing you? What if he tried to force you to feel the same way about him? What if he continued to show up at your doorstep every day and/or constantly called you?

I’m sure eventually you’d start to grow bitter and angry towards him, wouldn’t you?

You’d avoid him at all costs, you may even yell at him or curse at him to get him to leave you alone, because if he really loved you he’d do what – – just leave you alone.

The Perfect One

What if I told you the man pursuing you with all his heart is GOD?

He constantly tells us how much he loves us, so much so that he gave his one and only Son for You, for Me! (John 3:16)

His word says that his thoughts towards us are more in number than the grains of the sand (Psalms 139:17-18). He tells us that he loves all those who love him (Proverbs 8:17) and that nothing can seperate us from his love (Romans 8:39).

If you spent time reading his word, you’d find that it’s one huge love letter to all of us.

He reveals his love all around us; He provides us with flowers every day, he gives us rainbows and sunshine. He comforts us when we’re sad; he listens to our sorrows and shows up at our doorstep daily.

All he wants is to love us and for us to love him back.

Which some of us do and some of us don’t.

Those that don’t may have even had ‘the talk’ with God and didn’t even know it.

After all, we really don’t need the flowers because we’re too busy to smell them any ways and we don’t really need to talk to God daily because we got this, at least that’s what we tell ourselves.

We’ve basically told God, ‘I like you but, only as a friend.’

In other words, “God I don’t really need you until I NEED you.”

When life has left us stranded on the side of the road, that’s when we’ll call you.

When we’ve lost our job or have been given a bad bill of health, then we’ll cry out to you.

When the things we’ve been chasing and desiring leave us feeling empty, then we’ll come to you – but until then, let’s just be friends.

And what does God do, he honors our wishes and leaves us alone.

More than Just Friends

The great news is that God is a loving God.

If you end up stranded on the side of the road and call him, he’ll be the first one to answer.

If you cry out to him, he’ll still come and comfort you.

And if you seek him, he’ll be waiting with open arms.

It’s amazing how great his love and mercy is for us.

So take a walk with this, have you had ‘the talk’ with God?

Are you wondering why you’re life or relationships are a mess? Are you upset with God for not fixing things or not answering your prayers?

Maybe he’s just respecting your request to be left alone.

If you’re not spending time with him and seeking after him with all your heart, then don’t be surprised when you find that he’s not there.

No one will ever love you with the kind of love God has for you; he wants to be more than just friends, he wants to be your one and only.

“His faithful love endures forever.” Psalms 118:2

Father, your word says that you are LOVE. You are the one who created all the beauty and wonder around me; everything I need you have provided. Thank you for the sunshine that warms my body, thank you for the crisp morning air that refreshes my soul, thank you for the flowers that you provide every day. I should be in awe of you daily but instead, I often take you for granted. Forgive me for not desiring you like you desire me and for not loving you as you love me. Help me feel your presence, help me to seek your face and speak to you daily. I am not worthy of the love you have for me but the least I can do is spend time with you and praise you in all that I do. If I ever say I don’t need you, I am lying; I am weak and easily strayed and I need you every day. Continue to guide and strengthen me and in this I pray in Jesus’ name – Amen.
