“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your saving grace. The greatest gift I could ever receive is the precious gift of salvation. I am so thankful that I don’t have to work my way into heaven. If it were so, none of us would make it there. We are all sinners who fall short of the glory of God. Your word says our own righteous deeds are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).
I am so guilty of falling into the trap of trying to earn my way into heaven. I forget that the price has been paid through the precious shedding of Jesus’ blood for the forgiveness of my sins. Instead, I strive and plot and plan and boast in my own ego and pride. Please humble me in these moments, Lord.
Continually remind me of the gift that has been freely given. Help me to stand firm in this truth and to walk in meekness and humility. All I can do is praise You for Your tender mercy and saving grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
