Meditation Monday: A Prayer on Growth

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending us the one true vine, which is your son Jesus Christ. Thank you for grafting me into His vine, which is the only nourishment for my soul. Without Him, I am just a dry and brittle branch whittling away. Thank you for being the cultivator and manager over my life; knowing exactly what I need when I need it.

Forgive me when my life is not bearing fruit for you. Forgive me when I fail to draw my nourishment from the one true vine and instead, try to fend for myself. When my soul is dry and barren, please replenish it with a fresh filling of your Holy Spirit. When weeds sprout up and try to entangle me, please prune them away and anything else that hinders my growth.

Lord, I lift up this day and this week to you. Help me to consciously and continually abide in You; help me to be in your presence and to meditate on your word. Cultivate and tend to my soul; I know that my life is of no real value apart from You. Help me to grow my roots deep down into you Lord, and may my life be one that bears an abundance of fruit for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
