Meditation Monday: Take Every Thought Captive

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful to serve a God who greater than I. A God who knows the plans for my life, a God who wants to accomplish a good work but also, a God who has compassion and loves me in all my failings and shortcomings. Your word tells us that Your thoughts are not our thoughts and Your ways are higher than ours could ever be (Isaiah 55:8-9). The things you have set out for us, we cannot even begin to think up. How amazing is that! Yet, even still…I forget this wonderful truth.

Forgive me when I allow the lofty opinions of others to rise up against You and lead me astray. Forgive me also when I allow my own lofty thoughts and opinions to rise above You. Forgive me when my balloon of ego and pride become overinflated and begins to drift. Help me to tether Your anchor of truth around my rebellious heart.

Please go before me this day and this week Lord. Help me to take every thought captive; every thought of fear, unworthiness, shame, pride, and any doubts about Your goodness and faithfulness. Help me to use the Sword of the Spirit to cut away anything that entangles me. Help me, above it all, to be in Your word; saturate my heart with the knowledge of Your truth so that I can guard my heart daily. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
